Librarian - Outreach
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under general supervision, performs specialized library work coordinating the mobile library and outreach services, developing library programs and services, and communicating with the public. Work involves developing an ongoing plan for outreach services to meet community needs based on interaction and feedback with library users, community organizations and agencies, and the public. The employee works with library staff, statewide library organizations and agencies, and community partners to provide programs and services to underserved populations. The employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in working with library staff and community partners. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contacts with library patrons. Reports to the Library Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS
Works in close cooperation with the Library Director and the Library Management Team to develop an annual plan for library outreach programs and services, including budgeting.
Assists library management in developing, coordinating and evaluating outreach programs and services, including evaluating effectiveness of programs and services.
Serves as a liaison to community groups, organizations, and agencies, develops partnerships, and acts as an ambassador for the Iredell County Public Library System.
Oversees the mobile library schedule, partnering with staff from all library departments to provide library programs and services.
Coordinates with the Program Development and Community Engagement Librarian to plan, implement, and promote library programs and services through outreach.
Seeks input from and engagement with the public, including gathering ideas and feedback through surveys, focus groups, etc. and evaluate which events best serve/meet the needs the community.
Performs circulation duties: check items in and out, registers patrons, provides readers advisory services, places items on hold, and handles account issues.
Loads and unloads book trucks and collections on and off of the mobile library.
Maintains outreach services records and reports monthly stats to the Information Services Manager.
Maintains the Library’s storywalks, changing out the panels as scheduled.
Restocks the little free libraries housed in the Iredell County Department of Social Services lobbies.
Participates in community events such as local festivals, parades, wellness fairs, etc.
Provides and models excellent customer service to all library patrons.
Responds to inquiries and provides customer service, assistance, and instruction to library patrons; interprets library rules, policies, and procedures to the public.
Completes a minimum of 40 hours of professional development each fiscal year.
Fills in at other locations and desks when needed.

Knowledge of current trends and emerging ideas in public library services and digital technology.
Excellent communications skills, both written and oral, and strong collaboration skills.
DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s Degree in Library Science with one (1) to three (3) years of Public Library experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s License may be required.
Must be eligible for North Carolina Public Librarian Certification.
Evening and weekend work required.
